In the Studio Jewellery School are delighted to announce that we have, at long last, moved our school to Alicante in Spain. Our first set of Spain-based courses are now viewable on our Calendar page and available to book.
All our lecturers have agreed to fly out to Spain to continue teaching their wonderful skills to old and new students, in fact they are looking forward to it.
The courses will be slightly shorter days therefore enabling the possibility of family and friends to also enjoy some of your company should they want to join you. We have already been contacted by a company who are organising trips to bodegas and sightseeing should any students and friends want to join in with other things. Our intention is that all should leave with our usual high standard of skills learnt but also have a wonderful experience.
We have already made contacts in the area with people who will let rooms from 15 euros per night per person and will drive them to and from the school for the courses. We will be looking at more options for students as soon as we can. The closest beach of Guardamar is 15 minutes drive from us and Torrevieja 20 minutes, so if it’s a beach you are looking for it’s not far. Alicante airport is about 20 minutes away, we are located down a quiet country lane but close to villages and towns, nothing too far away.
Thank you all for your kind wishes on our facebook page, we really do appreciate them.
Very best wishes to you all and look forward to you joining us in the lovely warm sunshine.
Despite the striking quality of the work, this course is actually suitable for people of all skill levels.
You will be surprised at what you can achieve.
The Chasing and Repoussé technique involves sculpting the metal using a hammer and Chasing tools. It is a historic, visceral technique that allows you to create strikingly beautiful designs.
Fabrizio Acquafresca is an internationally renowned teacher, who comes from a long line of Florentine artisans. He upholds his family tradition and travels the world teaching the art of Chasing and Repoussé.
He has been working professionally in this medium for over 30 years, creating gold and silver bible covers for the Vatican and the trophy for the San Marino Formula One Grand Prix and many more notable pieces. He has shown his work in galleries throughout the world.
The course is limited to six places to ensure that there is a good student to teacher ratio, however this does mean that places are limited and as such students are advised to book early to ensure a place on the course.
Day 1: You will sculpt a copper plate into a dragonfly, a beautiful form specially designed by Fabrizio to teach you the core Chasing and Repoussé techniques, including how to use the tools effectively. You will learn to work with pitch block, a hammer and handmade Chasing tools. Fabrizio will help you to refine your own design, which you bring to work on during the second day.
Day 2: You will use Chasing ad Repoussé techniques to fashion your own design in your choice of silver or copper.
Days 3 and 4: You will continue to refine your work. You are given the opportunity to suit the time to your requirements. You may turn your design into a finished item, such as a plaque, name plate or cuff bracelet, brooches or whatever you wish. But you must limit the size of your work to no more than 20cm x 10cm. This is due to the size of the pitch blocks and the pickle tank.

You are welcome to purchase the metal during the course, or you may bring your own.
If you wish to purchase the metal during the course, please advise us of the size of your design far enough in advance for us to purchase it especially for you.
If you bring your own metal, please remember that the size should be the same size of your design, with at least 1cm added to every side.
You will need a piece of copper for your practice piece 12cm x 12cm by 0.5mm or 0.6mm thick. Please do not bring thicker metal or it will not work as well. We can also provide this metal for a small charge.
