The tutor Rex Cooper has spent
a lifetime in the jewellery trade. During
his apprenticeship as a hand engraver, Rex
was expected to assist in the repairing
of jewellery, and the sizing of gold rings
etc. This experience in
goldsmithing led to an interest in silversmithing
and as a mature student he later graduated
from Loughborough University with a B A
(Hons) degree in three dimensional design
in silversmithing and jewellery.
During this two-day course,
students will learn the basic methods and
trade secrets of making a silver box, using
techniques which Rex has used for more than
20 years.

After cutting and forming
the separate sections of the pilibox, the
student will silver solder the parts together.
Then hand finish the piece to a high standard.

The silver used to make the
box is an additional £10.
This course is suitable for
beginners who have completed the
2 day 'Introduction Course'.
