In The Studio Jewellery School

Casting Course Details
The first day of the course commences with an explanation of the processes of casting. A demonstration using wax and other media follows. Students will then create their work with ideas and assistance constantly on hand. At approximately 4pm, students finish their sculpted and carved pieces. These are then mounted onto wax trees for the casting process. Students are then taken into the casting workshop and shown the procedures for casting their work. Waxes are placed into a burn out kiln for the start of the overnight lost wax process.

Treble Cleff Cuttlefish mould

On day 2 of the course, a lecture is given on reproduction of castings using mould making techniques. Different ways of producing castings, without the use of expensive equipment, are shown using cuttlefish and clay. Students are shown the casting of their work, using centrifugal casting equipment.

Students may then finish their castings and turn some pieces into finished jewellery if time allows.
