The tutor Melanie Arundell is excellent in this field of jewellery making. On completion of this two day course you will be proficient in a wealth of chain maille weaves.

The course will start with a demonstration of the basic principles of making chain maille jewellery. After practicing these principles students will make a parallel chain bracelet and a pair of silver earrings. Aspect ratio, an important part of chain making, will be covered fully in this course. We will then move to the versatile Byzantine chain and will look at using this in a variety of ways.

Finishing your jewellery to a high standard using a variety of techniques will be demonstrated.

At the end of the day we will finish with looking at the best ways of polishing your chaim maille.

On day 2 we will move to the spiral and vertebra chains and will finish with a Japanese maille motif.

Materials and clasps for the projects will be produced in copper and enamelled copper plus a silver kit and clasp to take home will be £90.

The cost of the kits also include the pliers and mat for the students to take with them so there is no need to bring anything but yourself.
