The Lecturer:

The lecturer for the 'Introduction to Jewellery Making' course is Teresa Speer BA Hons jewellery. the schools resident lecturer. Teresa has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She is a qualified lecturer and has lectured at Loughborough University School of Art and Design and Birmingham city university.


The Course:
We would like to give you an idea of the skills learnt during the the 2 day course.

  • Day 1. The course commences with a short 'Health and Safety' lecture. A demonstration of piercing (cutting the metal) and finishing to a high standard follows. Students complete a design for a pendant or keyring, this they cut out using guilding metal provided. A demonstration of soldering is given. Students then solder and finish their work.
  • Day 2. Students are given silver for production of a ring, together with a cabochon stone. A lecture is given on ring making. Students make their rings and size them if necessary. A lecture is given for bezel making (a bezel is the setting to hold the stone) and preparing their ring for the bezel. The lecturer demonstrates the stone setting process. Students complete their rings by setting their stones in the bezels on their ring.
