Alistair
Mc Callum, truly an expert in this field,
is our lecturer for this course.
The technique involves soldering
and sandwiching different metals together,
then breaking through the layers of metals
to reveal the wonderful patterns that define
Mokume Ganes.
Alistair has been producing
work using this technique for over 20 years.
Mokume Gane translates from
the Japanese to 'WOOD GRAIN METAL'.
Mokume Gane is thought to
have been created in Japan 300 years ago
by the Takahashi family to make sword guards
and mountings.
Over the two day course students
will make a piece and learn the intricacies
of producing Makume Gane.
The cost of the materials
used on this course is an additional £20.00
payable on arrival to the course. The materials
used will be silver, copper and guilding
metal.
