Precious Metal Clay looks and feels
much like ordinary sculpting or porcelain
clay. What makes Precious Metal Clay so
fantastic is that it consists of extremely
fine particles of pure metal (silver or
gold), dust, mixed with a non-toxic organic
binder and water. The clay burns away during
firing, leaving you with a fine silver piece,
which can be hallmarked. PMC and Art Clay
are both Precious Metal Clays manufactured
by different companies. This course is suitable
for complete beginners.

The course includes the basic
techniques in handling, shaping, drying,
firing and finishing the clay. Learn about
ring making, make a fine silver replica
of a natural leaf, produce a hollow bead
and learn stone setting techniques unique
to this form of jewellery making. Learn
how to give your pieces a professional finish.
A pendant and earring set may also be produced.
Learn to torch-fire a piece and learn how
to programme the kiln for firing the clay.

Course members will be working
with Precious Metal Clay and Paste, and
Precious Metal Clay Slow Dry Clay. There
will also be an opportunity to try working
with a syringe filled with precious metal
clay.
