Stone Setting Course Details
The tutor Tony Campbell has been a professional stone setter since 1961. He is currently lecturing at the University of Central England in Birmingham's jewellery quarter and the Glass house. He has previously lectured in both North and South America and Germany. He continues to be a setter in demand and has set stones in jewellery for members of the Royal Family.

This intensive course is not recommended for beginners. Students will be expected to use an electric pendant motor and an electric hammer in addition to hand tools.

On a two day course, Tony expects students to learn approximately 4 different settings. These may include - claw set, speed channel, rub over and dish set. Other settings will be demonstrated. If you have any particular setting you wish to learn that has not been mentioned, Tony will be pleased to accommodate you.

The casting mounts used for your stone setting projects together with the stones, drills and burrs are not included in the course fee. These costs are payable to Tony after the course, depending on how many and what type of mounts you will use. These are then yours to take home.

Students who have their own gravers and scorpers are asked to bring them with them. For students who do not have these tools, they are available to purchase from Tony during the course. Gravers and scorpers are cut to fit the person using them, therefore we do not have these tools available for students to borrow. If you do not wish to purchase these tools, please make Tony aware before the commencement of the course.
